Aermacchi

Alenia Aermacchi, a company of Finmeccanica Group will participate in the next Farnborough Air Show, which is to take place in London from 17 to 23 July 2006.

The Company participation within the framework of Finmeccanica will confirm its leading role in the trainer sector through the display of its industrial capabilities in various areas.

• Central Area: “Training and Simulation” with the flight simulator of the M-346 aircraft
• Side Company Area: with scale-models of the M-346, MB-339, M-311 and SF-260 trainers and an interactive “Mission Support Station”.

A static display will show the M-346 and M-311 aircraft, while the flying display will highlight the performance of the M-346 and M-311 trainers.

Alenia Aermacchi is a leading company in the design and production of trainers for military pilots. With a value of production of 298,7 M€ in the year 2005, Alenia Aermacchi is able to offer a wide range of products that meet the requirements of all training phases: primary, basic and lead-in fighter.

Since July 2003 Alenia Aermacchi has integrated in Finmeccanica Group. The company’s facilities are located at Venegono Superiore (Varese province). Its workforce totals about 1800 and plants occupy a total area of approx. 274,000 m2. Facilities include laboratories and workshops for structural tests, a wind and a water tunnel in addition to an airfield for flight test activities.

Design and production of military training aircraft are the core businesses of Alenia Aermacchi. The wide range of products includes:

• ­M-346, an advanced and lead/in fighter trainer of the new generation.
• MB-339CD, an advanced and lead/in fighter trainer
• ­M-311, a basic turbofan trainer
• SF-260, a piston-engined or turboprop-powered screener/primary trainer

The company also cooperate in a number of international military programmes including the AMX, Eurofighter Typhoon, Tornado and C-27J.

­Since mid ‘90s, Alenia Aermacchi, thanks to the experience gained in the military field, has extended its business to the civil aviation field, which currently which presently contributes around 35% to the order portfolio.
Alenia Aermacchi is currently involved in many industrial collaboration for the production of structural part and components for engine nacelles for the aircraft Airbus A380, A330, A318, A319, A320, A321, A350, the Boeing 787, the Embraer 170, ARJ21 and the Falcon 7X.

An active role is also played in international research activities, being Alenia Aermacchi one of the main partners of the "SILENCER" programme, which is focused on the study and development of advanced systems for noise abatement.
